Inspired by a true Thai ritual of lying in coffins to get rid of bad luck and prolong life, THE COFFIN is a supernatural thriller about a young man and a young woman who decide to go through the ritual in Thailand. And i ponder why they have to do this with the buddha statue as the backdrop....probably to see the practionioners stupidity....lolz
I have nothing against people who loves going to see SCARY movies; it's their feedom and choice....
But there's just so much incorrect portrayal of buddhist teachings in so-called buddhist countries....I would love to sleep in a coffin every day if it really can get rid of bad luck....lolz, even the buddha himself cannot change or writeoff our BAD Karma; he merely teaches us how...WE GOT TO DO IT OURSELVES!!! by practicing the 8 fold paths he mentioned....not sleeping in coffins. The Buddha had to undergo the negative karma himself before he "extinguished the flame".
Superstitious beliefs are about the last thing the buddha want to promote; but there's just this label that "buddhists engage in strange rituals and chants"....and many buddhist themselves practice hearsay...

A Trilogy...a Full Circle?

In 3 days time, it's the lunar new year I came back a year ago where it started, it shall end... I was born a Chinese Buddhist, or what some may call a mahayana Buddhist. As i turned into an adult, i started exploring into earlier versions when it was still in India and Sri Lanka; or what some may call theravada Buddhism. And I've found solace in it as it kind of suits my fiery, impatient and egoistic character. Lately, i chance upon words of wisdom while watching; of all things, the latest rendition of a famous martial arts soap opera by Jin Yong, "Demi-Gods_and_Semi-Devils". I am going back to Crystal Jade Restaurants this evening to serve food; that's where i started off when i came back from india a year ago; the impending CNY double pay of course was a motivating factor, but i have other reasons for doing this... I also met a very promising young dude whilst serving behind the counter at Buddhist Library; i was over-zealous to say the least in tr
