The world in which we live in Today ...

we might have almost abolish slavery and human civilization has somewhat progressed... Income disparity and equity seems to have improved since the Middle Ages. But the stats below shows we have much more to work towards; esp so when there are 6.7 billion of us now on earth and there will be 8-10 billion in 2050. (there was only 1 billion people in 1800)   Figures taken from the movie HOME YouTube link

The Story of what we put on our skins....

I've always been amazing by the list of chemicals found in a shampoo bottle, but didnt realise companies are allowed to use words like 'herbal' and 'natural' in their product when it's all mainly synthetic chemicals! And why dun we ever ask ourselves what's inside a bottle of expensive fragrances (we never get to see this 'secret' list) Click Here to watch the clip

Jenesys Followup Trip

6 of us from past year's Jun batch managed to make it; from the original 40; which we call ourselves 'JeneTempuras', from the numerous tempuras and tofu meals we had during our 2 week stay in the Land of the rising Sun. It was heart warming to meetup with old pals like Supri, Roger, Umi, JP and Sofia. 5 days of jam-packed activities, workshops and fieldtrips and i brought home with me not only a bloated stomach (we had 5 meals a day) but also renewing bonds with my jenetempuras  friendships made with the other previous batches; some as early as this March. We also brought home an aim in mind to do a Tree-planting activity in each of our communities this coming 10Oct2010 (10.10.10) click here for the photos

Earth Day's 40th anniversary

This week we celebrated Earth Day the 40th time; this day was probably coined in the late 1960s when humans realised we are using too much stuff and polluting our environment more than what it can naturally replenish. This was the era during the love and peace movement and mind you, before terms like global warming and climate change was even coined. 40 years down the road, we see a wave of eco-consumerism being so blatently force-thoat into our bloodstream; never before have people's Needs been so sinfully confused with Wants; our wants have become our needs; that's basically the bane of our civilization. Maybe GREED has always been a unique quality of homosapiens; something which the other living species sharing this planet seem to be lacking; together with our so-called intelligence/IQ. I chanced upon a very simple reason by the buddha recently and there's just so much truth in it. 3 questions basically.... "Are things we see, hear, smell, taste, touch and think...

Is Climate change all Doom and Gloom?

If we could pause for a moment and contemplate and not forcus on Climate Change; which is a very recent invention but rather look back at the way in which we have depleted the earth's natural resources....so even if climate science is false...no one would argue that the rate at which we are depleting the natural resources is sustainable...when will humans realise that GREEN was used to assoc with environmental stuff due to our human GREED (just a diff of a letter) It's some times good, as advised by the buddha, to contemplate on death as we never know when is death. And thus by being aware of death as something not fearful or faraway....we then can better appreciate and love our parents, family and friends more dearly and not take them for granted...
